Stanton, Kentucky is located a few miles west of the Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge. We're situated on the edge of the Cumberland Plateau along the Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway at Exit 22. We're a community of about 3,000 people and the seat of Powell County.
The City of Stanton’s Planning and Zoning Office is responsible for the administration of the City’s Zoning Ordinance, Comprehensive Plan, mapping, permit review, building inspection, code enforcement, business license applications and applications for zone changes, conditional use permits, and dimensional variances.
The Zoning Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day Planning & Zoning operations and has an office at City Hall at 98 Court Street in Stanton. The Floodplain Coordinator is responsible for reviewing applications for disturbance or construction within streams and the zoned floodplains within the city limits and enforcing floodplain regulations.
Building Inspector – The City of Stanton currently does not have a local building inspector; however, all commercial construction must have a permit through the Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction: 859-595-0689
The Board of Adjustment is responsible for hearing requests for variances, conditional use permits, and any appeals. The Board of Adjustment meets every third Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at 98 Court Street in Stanton. Contact the Zoning Administrator to submit requests or for more information.
The Planning Commission hears requests for zone changes and subdivisions of land. The Planning Commission meets every third Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at 98 Court Street in Stanton. Contact the Zoning Administrator to submit requests or for more information.
The BOA and Planning Commission are each made up of five citizen members. At least three members of each board must live within Stanton city limits and all members must reside in Powell County.
